This is a photo of our nearest village, Riogordo.
This is almost the same view we get from our house as we overlook the village from about 3 kilometres away. It is a typically Spanish village, with two banks, three ironmongers, four butchers' shops, two bakeries and several supermarkets. Some people run a shop from their front room. The only way you know it is a shop is by adverts in the windows or boxes outside!
Every Easter, Riogordo is transformed by a well-publicised event, the Passion Play. This is preceded, on Good Friday, by a Procession through the streets of the village.
The Passion Play, El Paso, takes place in the grounds of a local school. The audience sit in the school playground and watch the events take place on a hill by the side of the playground. They cater for 2,000 spectators!
The hill on which the play takes place has buildings which are used solely for the Passion Play. It is beautifully produced, with authentic looking costumes and scenery. This year there was a horse and donkey being used and a dog kept running around the hill - he was a stray and not in the plot, but caused some laughter! The El Paso of Riogordo is well-known in Andalucia and well worth a visit. The tickets this year cost 8 euros each (about £5)
This year, it was a very cold Good Friday.
Here is a photo of me with a neighbour!
I am the one wearing the silly hat for warmth!
